Her expertise and passion led her to become the fine jewelry buyer at Henry Birks USA, and later, she took on the role of regional sales manager for Tiffany & Co.'s trade division. In 2000, she embarked on an entrepreneurial path, founding Jan Mohr & Associates, a consulting firm that would change the game.
It was through this firm that Mohr found her true calling as Couture's retailer liaison. With infinite patience and a heart of gold, she guided jewelers through the show, answering every question, no matter how big or small. Her dedication and support were unparalleled, and her retirement in June after 26 years with Couture left a void that can never be filled.
But here's where it gets controversial... Mohr's impact extended far beyond her official role. She was a friend, a mentor, and a connector. Matt Rosenheim, a longtime Couture retailer, shared how Mohr was a constant source of support, offering practical advice and even helping with personal matters. The Guarino family, owners of Louis Anthony Jewelers, echoed this sentiment, describing her as a beacon of warmth and kindness.
And this is the part most people miss... Mohr's influence wasn't limited to retailers. Adam Glassman, creative director of Oprah Daily, noted her incredible attentiveness. She knew everyone's kids' names, everyone's pets' names - it was more than just work for her. Glassman, a veteran jewelry journalist, had known Mohr for over 20 years and considered her a true friend and supporter of the entire jewelry community.
In a statement, Gannon Brousseau, executive vice president at Emerald, described Mohr as the show's rock, an unsung hero, and a North Star. Her level-headed guidance and perspective were invaluable to her colleagues, and her impact on the industry and community is immeasurable.
At the Couture Design Awards, Mohr was honored with a new award, the Hidden Gem Award, which was later renamed the Jan Mohr Award for Excellence. This award recognizes retailers who embody Mohr's legacy of kindness, respect, and commitment to fostering designer success.
