Brace yourselves, Vancouver! A series of storms is about to unleash their fury upon Metro Vancouver and Vancouver Island, and it's not just a little drizzle we're talking about here.
Environment Canada has issued rainfall warnings, and they're not messing around. By Friday, we could be looking at a whopping 120 mm of rain in Metro Vancouver alone! That's a lot of water, folks.
But here's where it gets controversial... or at least, a little confusing. The warnings are specifically for the northern sections of Metro Vancouver and most of Vancouver Island. So, if you're in the city of Vancouver, Burnaby, Coquitlam, Maple Ridge, or the North Shore, you might want to batten down the hatches.
On Vancouver Island's west coast, including the popular tourist spots of Tofino and Ucluelet, rainfall totals could reach 100 mm by Wednesday night. And it's not just the rain we have to worry about; strong winds are also expected, gusting up to 90 km/h in exposed coastal areas.
The warm front bringing in this moist, subtropical air is to blame (or thank, depending on your perspective). It's a stark contrast to the dry and warm January we've been experiencing so far, with some trees already blooming due to the unusual weather.
And this is the part most people miss: the inland sections of Vancouver Island, like Port Alberni, are expected to receive a more modest 50 mm of rain. But don't get too comfortable; another round of heavy rain is predicted for Metro Vancouver on Thursday evening, with 40-60 mm expected on both Wednesday and Thursday evenings.
So, Vancouverites and islanders, it's time to grab your rain gear and prepare for a wet and wild few days. Stay safe out there, and remember, every storm passes eventually!
What do you think? Will these rainfall warnings have an impact on your plans? Let's discuss in the comments!
