EACC Recovers Sh3.4B: Major Anti-Graft Gains for 2024/25 (2026)

EACC's Annual Report: A Triumph in the Fight Against Corruption

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) has released its annual report, highlighting significant achievements in the battle against corruption. In the 2024/2025 financial year, the EACC made remarkable strides, recovering a substantial amount of public funds and implementing robust preventive measures.

According to the report, the EACC recovered a staggering Sh3.4 billion, filing 79 recovery suits with an estimated asset value of Sh4.8 billion. This accomplishment showcases the Commission's unwavering commitment to protecting public resources and combating corruption. The report was presented by EACC Chairperson David Oginde, who emphasized the Commission's dedication to upholding integrity and transparency.

The EACC's efforts extended beyond recovery. They received 4,083 allegations, of which 2,846 were actionable, and investigated 800 files, resulting in 229 cases of corruption and economic crimes, and 56 cases involving constitutional violations. The Commission's integrity verification process played a crucial role, processing 33,973 declaration forms and handling 2,783 requests, ensuring public officers adhere to leadership and integrity standards.

Asset tracing and recovery were also significant. In addition to the recovery suits, the EACC traced assets worth Sh22.9 million in 27 finalized cases. Preservation orders were sought for assets valued at Sh2.685 billion, and 102 petitions and judicial review applications were filed to safeguard public interest in ongoing cases.

Preventive measures were another key focus. The EACC conducted system reviews in state agencies like Kenya Power, the National Social Security Fund (NSSF), and the Kenya Prisons Service. They also empowered 13 institutions across ministries and counties to conduct corruption risk assessments, fostering a proactive approach to corruption prevention.

Public education remained a priority, with an estimated 128,000 citizens reached through school and community programs. The Commission engaged 742 institutions across 23 counties, training 203 integrity assurance officers and officials to strengthen governance and ethical standards.

The report's financial statements revealed that the EACC received Sh4.2 billion from the government, with 99% effectively utilized. The National Audit Office issued a clean bill of health for the Commission's expenditure, demonstrating efficient management of public funds.

Despite challenges such as limited resources and delayed cooperation from other state agencies, the EACC's achievements in the 2024/2025 financial year are commendable. The report serves as a testament to the Commission's dedication to transparency, accountability, and the fight against corruption, inspiring further efforts to safeguard public resources and promote good governance.
