Beth Ditto and Jarvis Cocker Join BBC Radio 6 Music's Weekend Lineup
The BBC's iconic radio station, BBC Radio 6 Music, has announced exciting changes to its weekend schedule. Starting April 4th, Beth Ditto will take the reins as the new host of Saturday mornings (10 am - 1 pm), bringing her unique blend of warmth, wit, and wisdom to the airwaves. As the fearless frontwoman of the legendary punk band Gossip, Beth has become an iconic figure, inspiring generations and collaborating with fashion and art icons worldwide.
In her own words, Beth expresses her excitement: "I can't wait to join you on Saturday mornings, sharing the music I love and making the weekends even more special. It's going to be a dream come true."
On the other hand, Jarvis Cocker, following the critical acclaim of Pulp's recent return, will resume his Sunday afternoon slot on 6 Music (4 - 6 pm) starting April 5th. Jarvis initially joined the station in 2010 to launch his Sunday Service show, which he paused in 2017 with a temporary farewell. Since then, Jarvis has explored various endeavors, including presenting Radio 4 programs, writing his memoir, releasing solo albums, and touring globally with Pulp.
Jarvis shares his enthusiasm: "I'm thrilled to be back at 6 Music, the world's greatest independent radio station. Who could resist the opportunity to take care of Iggy's show? I'm excited to discover new music and, most importantly, I miss the station's vibrant community. Tune in from April 5th, and let's make some musical magic together."
Iggy Pop, who has been an integral part of the station's success, is taking an extended break to focus on personal music projects and will return in 2027. After a successful run with Jarvis, Iggy launched his own show, Iggy Confidential, on Fridays (7 - 9 pm) in 2015. In 2021, he took Sunday afternoons to a whole new level with his unparalleled music mix and captivating stories about The Stooges and beyond.
Iggy reflects on his time at 6 Music: "It's true, after 12 years, I'm taking a break. I have other commitments, but I'll be back. I'm glad Jarvis has agreed to step in as my cover."
Samantha Moy, Head of 6 Music, expresses her gratitude: "6 Music is home to some incredible broadcasters, and we've been honored to have Iggy Pop, Jarvis Cocker, and now Beth Ditto share their passion for music with our listeners. While we'll miss Iggy, we welcome Jarvis back and look forward to Beth's weekend contributions."
With a dedicated audience of 2.4 million listeners (RAJAR, Q4 2025), 6 Music stands as the UK's largest digital-only radio station, offering a diverse range of music and culture beyond mainstream tastes. It seamlessly blends contemporary hits with iconic, groundbreaking sounds from the past 50 years, featuring a stellar lineup of presenters, including AFRODEUTSCHE, Cerys Matthews, Chris Hawkins, and many more.
