The 2026 NBA Summer League is in full swing, and Day 3 brought some standout performances that are worth highlighting. While some star rookies took a rest day, others stepped up and made their mark. One of the most impressive performances came from Arthur Kaluma of the Los Angeles Lakers. Kaluma, a second-year player out of Texas, did a little bit of everything in the final game of Day 3. He finished with a game-high 34 points and added five rebounds in the 91-70 win over the Mavericks. The 6-foot-8 forward also hit six 3s and was 11-for-16 from the field. Kaluma's performance was all the more impressive given that he had 18 points the night before against the Thunder. What makes this performance particularly noteworthy is Kaluma's ability to run the floor and finish through contact, suggesting that he has fresh legs and is in top form. This is a player to watch, and I suspect we'll be hearing more about him in the coming years.
Another standout performance came from Labaron Philon Jr. and Johni Broome of the Philadelphia 76ers. Philon, a point guard, scored 24 points and led the Sixers to an overtime win over the Pacers. His mid-range pull-up jumper was almost unguardable, and his footwork off the first step was impressive. Broome, a forward in his second season, owned the paint for the 76ers. He was very streaky in the pick-and-pop, but played solid defense and owned the boards. Broome finished with 23 points, 11 rebounds, and three assists in 33 minutes. These two players are certainly making a case for themselves in the NBA, and I suspect we'll be seeing more of them in the coming years.
Zuby Ejiofor and Kingston Flemings of the Atlanta Hawks also had strong performances. Ejiofor, the 23rd pick in the draft, was everywhere defensively for the Hawks in their win over the Nets. His defense of ball screens and his drop coverage off the switch translates well to the NBA, and he's finding his range offensively off the block. Flemings, a guard out of Houston, didn't have a great offensive performance, but his defensive play was encouraging. He got his hands on a lot of deflections and had seven defensive boards, showing two-way potential. These two players are also making a case for themselves in the NBA, and I suspect we'll be seeing more of them in the coming years.
Trevor Keels of the Miami Heat had a hot hand and put on a shooting clinic. While his performance wasn't enough to propel the Heat over the Magic, Keels finished with 32 points in 30 minutes and went 6-for-10 from 3-point range. He also added four rebounds and two assists and only committed one turnover. Keels, the No. 42 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, has played limited minutes with the Knicks and Heat during the NBA season. His performance in the Summer League suggests that he has the potential to be a valuable player in the NBA.
Chaney Johnson of the Brooklyn Nets also had a strong performance. Johnson finished with 20 points and had two impressive dunks in the Nets' loss to the Hawks. The Nets were without Egor Demin and Mikel Brown Jr., and Johnson got a lot of offensive touches in the paint and was everywhere defensively. He also finished with 10 rebounds and five steals in his second Summer League game. Johnson is certainly a player to watch, and I suspect we'll be seeing more of him in the coming years.
